We are delighted to stock this native Irish indigenous sheep’s wool from local Co. Galway farmer-owned and Irish run The Galway Wool co-operative; supplying an Irish grown bio-fibre Galway Sheep Wool. The wool comes from Pure Bred Galway Sheep that have a registered pedigree, creating an authentic Native Irish Wool.
This yarn is sold in large 250g hanks/skeins and is a DK/Worsted weight with a crisp definition and structure, the staples of the wool are not particularly long but are firm and crisp with a indistinct fluffy crimp. This makes it a fantastic yarn to create texture in a knit, wonderful for cables with an honest look and feel. It is not soft and would not suit next to the skin garments but wonderful for a rustic cardigan, slip over, gilet or waistcoat which embraces the original Aran sweater authentic look and feel.
It gives excellent definition and structure. It could also be used in combination with finer and soft wool to create a different feel to a garment.
We recommend using size 3.5mm, 4mm, 4.5mm and 5mm size needles.
Each hank is 250 grams and is approx 540yards (500 meters) in length.
Perfect also for dyers
